Today we get to know Abby Voogt from CFJ HQ. Former dancer, always smiling (except for her workout face!), and one of the new foundations of the 5am warriors!
WHAT DO YOU DO FOR A JOB?
I am a managing member of Egoli Kids Play School in Edenvale – the boring side of working at a nursery school but I love seeing all the kid’s smiley faces everyday 🙂
HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN TRAINING AT CFJ?
I joined CFJ in April 2014 but only really started training in May after all the public holidays.
HOW DID YOU FIRST HEAR ABOUT CrossFit?
My boyfriend started at another box last year sometime and he would not shut up about it so I had to see what all the fuss was about and after my trial class I was instantly hooked!
ARE THERE ANY MEMORIES FROM YOUR FIRST DAYS THAT YOU’D LIKE TO SHARE?
Well I was quite intimidated starting at a new CF box. Everyone looked super fit and strong, but everyone was so welcoming, friendly, chilled and made me feel so comfortable – really feel like a I have a second family at CFJ!
WHAT IS THE COOLEST THING THAT YOU HAVE ACHIEVED AT CFJ?
Double Unders!! Oh my word I hated them until I got them and now I LOVE them 🙂
WHAT CHANGES IN YOUR HEALTH HAVE YOU NOTICED SINCE STARTING CrossFit?
CF is a huge stress relief for me. I definitely feel a lot stronger than before, starting to see muscles in my arms & back I didn’t know I had. Feel a lot healthier too! I haven’t been sick since I started CF this year.
Mmm that’s a tough one because I love met cons but I also really enjoy Olympic lifting but if I had to choose one I would say snatches.
WHAT IS YOUR BIGGEST CHALLENGE IN CrossFit?
Haha definitely pull ups & pistols!
LIST SOME OF YOUR BIG GOALS.
- Strict pull ups
- Increase my Olympic lifting kg’s
- Take part in UWS in 2016
- And if all goes to plan, CrossFit Regionals in 2017
WHAT IS YOUR NUTRITION FIT? (Paleo, Zone, anything and everything, etc.)
Before I started CF it was anything & everything, but since my first winter challenge I try my best to stick to Paleo 80/20, but I do enjoy my wine now and again!
IF YOU COULD INVITE 3 FAMOUS PEOPLE TO DINNER, WHO WOULD THEY BE?
Sean Connery; best James Bond ever, suave and a gentleman, as well as a man that could do anything.
Freddie Mercury; most iconic frontman of the best band, changed the music industry forever with his music, we would not have the music today if it were not for Freddie and Queen.
Sonnie-Bill Williams; an inspiration to the sporting world, through many struggles with substance abuse, found peace and diligence within himself with Religion, always shows the utmost respect whenever he is in a sporting arena. He is an extremely talented sportsman by playing for the all blacks as a creative entity as well as being a professional boxer.
WHO INSPIRES YOU AT CFJ?
The Masters inspire me! I hope when I am 50 years plus I’m still rocking wall balls & cleans!
TELL US SOMETHING WE DON’T KNOW ABOUT YOU.
I use to be a dancer – Danced for 15 years (Ballet, modern, tap dancing & hip hop) I stopped when I started studying in Pretoria because I couldn’t find the right dance school. So when I started CF my squats were funny looking to say the least because of the habit of standing in plié and over extending my back which led to my back injury. But all is good now thanks to Tamarr’s amazing physiotherapy treatment, Imtiaz’s rehab program and the coaches’ care and attention to me in class knowing that I have an injury.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY, RICARDO PLATT!!
